Bikini and Brow Waxes at Age 8?

I recently read a piece in Philadelphia magazine: Trend: Pretty Babies that talks about how girls as young as eight are getting eyebrow and bikini waxes. Yikes! Now, I haven’t personally seen any prepubescent girls trying to get waxed at the spa where I work, but it doesn’t surprise me that this could be a growing, disturbing trend because of the pressures that make people think we have to become adults before our time. From talking with other salon and spas, release forms for parents to sign so their young children can get services, including hair removal are becoming all too common.
Other than the fact that it's a waste of money because they’re probably just ridding peach fuzz at such a young age, I think ripping hair off children is ridiculous and can’t help to wonder: What’s next? Tell me what you think, and post a comment below.

I’ve seen it. I’m an elementary school teacher. One day after Winter Break I noticed two of my (Hispanic) students (a brother and sister) had new eyebrows. So I asked them both and they said they had their eyebrows waxed. The girl, who was 10, asked me if I’d ever gotten my legs waxed and how did it feel because that’s what she wanted to get next! Her brother, by the way, was only 8. I asked an Hispanic friend if this was normal for the culture and she said it was, especially for the males. It’s all about presentation for them.
Wow, thanks for sharing your personal experience of actually seeing young kids getting waxed. I’m Hispanic, but born and raised in the United States. I have never seen it with my own eyes for kids that young, let alone boys!
