Ancient Hair Removal

Thursday May 1, 2008
Wanting to get rid of hair isn’t a new trend, by any means. Today we are fortunate to have all the modern day conveniences of high quality products, tools, equipment and trained professionals to clear away our hair, in a fast and sometimes even pain-free way. Ancient practices like sugaring and threading have stood the test of time, and are still used in our modern world. But here's some other interesting items and ingredients people have used for hair removal throughout history:
  • Sharpened rocks and shells
  • A "tweezer" made from two shells being pressed together
  • Depilatories (hair removing creams) made of dried cat’s dung and vinegar
Removing hair was often for general appearance, but also for special occasions like the bride on her wedding day, or to keep up with the current fashion (like high foreheads).
