Looking for Reviews of Epila, Laser at Home

Thursday August 21, 2008
epila, epila laser, epila laser hair removalRecently, an email was sent to me asking if I had heard anything about the Epila laser (compare prices). After checking out their website, some interesting things were noticed:
  • No telephone number or address, only an email form is given to contact them.

  • The device is said to use a diode laser, which shouldn’t be used on dark skin because it can cause scarring and blistering. On their questions and answers page, it does say that light skin and dark hair is the best combination for laser hair removal, but then goes on to say that the diode laser may improve treatment results even on the darkest skin types. I can’t figure that one out.

  • The site map and disclaimer pages are no longer available
So if you have used the Epila, please let us know in the hair removal forum. We’re very curious to see how, and if this product works.

You are on the right path by telling readers that the disclaimer page nor any contact info other than email is available. Out of curiosity I reviewed the terms and conditions page, it is frightening to say the least. The following are some bits and pieces, a major red flag to ANY potential buyer..here is a list of some of their terms, in no order, which I found ridiculous 1.You agree that time is not of the essence for delivery, however, time for payment of all Outstanding Amounts is of the essence 2.You must return the Epila Laser to Us within Two Months of You purchasing the package; …first they say time is not of the essence in shipping, which means they could take 2 months to ship the package, however, if you aren’t satisfied you must return it within 2 months of purchase. Basically they are saying it could take them 60 days to get the pkg to you because shipping time is NOT OF THE ESSENCE, so your 100% satisfaction return policy could easily be null and void because you can’t return what you didn’t receive within the 2 month from PURCHASE guarantee…sneaky. On to another term…3. If You comply with clauses 7(b )( i)(A) to 7(b)( i )(B), DISTRICOR Canada will refund the Purchase Price for the DISTRICOR CANADA Personal Hair Laser, less a 25% Administration Fee, Postage, Handling and Insurance …so basically they are saying that of the 229 you pay for the product and shipping, you will only be refunded 75% of it…that’s NOT a 100% money back guarantee as they state…again, sneaky. I’m not going to continue, read for yourself. BUYER BEWARE and READ TERMS CAREFULLY!

Very sneaky! While I would love to be proved wrong, the product or company doesn’t sound legitimate.

Thanks for posting this. I was just about to give-in and order this (despite some negative reviews from 2006), but after reading your comments, I went back to the site, and your right- very sneaky. And the fact that I can’t ‘talk’ to a person regarding the product- just makes me think this is a scam.
Also, I have search for recent reviews of this product, and I ca’t find anything that sounds genuine!
Thanks again!

(5) Chris says:

Just letting you know – I think they are saying that it COULD take that long to deliver (a standard disclaimer seen just about everywhere that delivery is involved).

I purchased it from their site on Monday, and it arrived on Friday. That’s a 4-day turnaround, so I don’t think the wording on the page should cause too much alarm.

I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but I’ll gladly give my thoughts here as I try the device starting tomorrow.

(7) NIKKI says:

I did buy it on ebay, very quick delivery. I felt that at $100 it was not that much to lose if it did not work. Well, the verdict is, it does not seem worth it as it only does one hair at a time. Furthermore, I think it is only burning the hair above or at the skin. I can actually smell it burning. I would not recommend it from anywhere.

Regarding the buying-on-ebay, i did find this http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/22669/Buying_from_eBay_WARNING.html#Post22669 which is a list someone made of hair removal products to not buy on ebay. Anyway i got really excited when i heard about this product but now im not so much. Amazon had some product reviews 3 out of 11 reviews said it worked, the others had mostly terrible things to say about it.

I mistakenly purchased the epila system in october, it arrived after 3 days and I immediatly shipped it back (arrived back by the 30th of october) and I am STILL waiting on my refund, almost a month later. I have sent about 4 or 5 emails to the company and have not once heard back. I believe this is a Scam company, so to anyone thinking about it, don’t do it!

To NIKKI, you are supposed to shave before you use these sorts of things. You are targeting the follicle not the hair. It will not work, at least not nearly as well, if you do not shave first. Hope this helped.

I’m reading the comments too late now, after I purchased Epila, a month ago. Being exited, I started using it immediately, after I got it, fallowing all the instructions, but I don’t see any improvement of my hair since the very first day. I thought that the hairs will start falling down by themselves, like it happened after my treatment with a professional laser years ago, but it didn’t. I decided to check and pull out one of them. The hair follicle was strong and alive. Actually after one of the sessions, my skin was badly swelling and in few days covered with wounds. I also sent e-mails to the company, asking for additional guidelines for usage, and just like many people didn’t get any responds. That’s really make me think this company is fake. Is there anyone who got the money back? I am wondering shell I even bother?

(12) Pawan says:

To NIKKI. Sarah is absolutely right. You suppose to shave first and then use the laser. Remember to shave not wax, use hair removal cream, tweezers. You can use battery operated tweezer because it doesn’t pluck. it works like shaving, only you don’t have to apply shaving cream. Hope it’ll help, too.

I can tell you for a fact this product, website or anything about it is legitimate. I payed 231.90 thru PAYPAL and never received the item. Still to this day, 3 months shy of a year, have i received any return emails, phone calls, or the item, or a refund. When i filed a claim thru paypal they said they couldn’t help me. Which was another huge dissappointment because that was one of the major reasons i signed up for an acct at paypal for their supposed protection of ripoffs and help in getting refunds or replacements. I just called the phone# listed on my completed order paper and it is no longer in service. I ordered it the month before my wedding in hopes of being silky smooth for the special occassion. But, instead I was prickly, for more reasons than just having stubbles. I was/am really pissed off. $231.90 is a lot of money and i would like it back.

I did the stupid thing and just went ahead and ordered this product. I haven’t gotten any conformation of my order, they have not answered my email and do not answer their phone. The company has an F rating with the BBB. After reading the comments on here is when I started to get worried that I had been screwed over. I contacted Pay Pal and for all of you out there that have ordered this product through the website I want you to know pay pal is very helpful. I was told today that I have 45 days to cantact paypal agin if I do not get anything from the company and I can file a dispute, paypal will then refuse payment to the company and refund my money. I am going to give them 1 more week to get back to me or give me what I ordered, otherwise I am going through paypal to get my money back.

Update:

Once paypal got involved I immediatly recieved a tracking number and my Epila arrived in the mail shortly there after.

A bonus was that when I went through PayPal the seller was forced to give them info. that they then passed on to me. So for those of you dealing with this shadey company here is an email address that is not given on the site;
epila@shaw.ca

Hope this helps.

(18) Crystal says:

I figured this would be a good place to let everyone know about the experiences I am having with the Epila:

I will attempt to updat as much as I can. I am very light skinned and have dark hair.

Day 1: I used it on a few areas of my legs (Unshaven for about a week). It does hurt and if your not careful it will burn the hair. Not sure if the burning will cause the hair to never grow back but we’ll know in a few days. Also caused large red bumps where I burned the hair and small red bumps where the hair was not burned. It remains to be seen how long these will last.

Day 2: I found a site that gave better info. on how to use the Epila; http://www.ehow.com/how_2214723_use-epila-home-laser-hair.html
so I followed that advice two ways. First I shaved. In one area I aimed and shot directly on the spot where the hair grows from still painful but, haha, no red bumps no lasting pain, good. On another area I did as suggested by the site and did small circles around the area the hair grows from. No pain (Probably means it won’t work as I am told there should be pain). No red bumps, no issues.

This conclueds my testing thus far. In a few days I should know which worked best and will let you know.

*Do not believe the site or anyone if they tell you the Epila is okay for people with dark skin. It will burn you. To do this test I used black ink to outline the area I was testing, if the laser even slightly touched that line it burned.*

I bought the Epila on december of 2008 and tried it. Unfortunately the machine does not have enough power for the hair follicles to burn and it took more than 4 hours to do 2 inch diameter of my leg. So, I decided to send it back with Express mail. I never receive any confirmation number or anything. I am trying to contact with the company and reps to get my refund. I just talk to someone today for her to check KOREAN warehouse for my retun item. They are supposed to call me and let me know. I am seriously thinking about opening a class act law suit about this company. They are not holding their promises and they are coming up with excuses. I think the company based on California. I was thinking to start with Best Business Burea. It is not the 300 dolar that I lost, but it is the principle. If the company promised to do something, they should honor it. What others thinking about my class action suit? Any suggestion? Or Recommendation? If I take the action, anyone out there will sign up and help me to take down this Scam company? Please e-mail me at fouargent25@hotmail.com
Thanks guys.

Sandra,
Use the email address epila@shaw.ca they gave me a Canadian address in British Columbia to send it back to. I will keep you posted about actually getting the refund. I am sending it certified mail.

(22) Sandra says:

Hey Lisa,
Thank you very much for the e-mail. After 7 months of struggle, I finally got my money back. I paid with my credit card and they refund back to Paypal some odd reason. However, I did not have a Paypal account and someone created a account under wrong e-mail address. I have to call back and forth to correct the e-mail. They told me to take it with Paypal. So, I decided to write an e-mail to epila@shaw.ca and I have to mention class action law suit in my e-mail for them to refund my money. This experience made me to think 100 times before I order anything from internet. Everyone out there want their refund, write a nasty and threatening e-mail to epila@shaw.ca to get your money. Please do not give up. It may be seem a little money, but the principle counts. Thank you very much for the information.

I bought the Xemos too and after having my hair burned down to the skin (and trust me I did it right, with just the stubble) I had hair growing through the scabs that remained. So needless to say it didn’t work for me. I contacted the company and they told me to send it back. i sent it with purolator, it cost me 70 dollars, and here I am a month later with no machine and no refund. I have written at least 5 times and have had one response telling me that they are looking into it. Now I see the sight is down.

In case anyone else is dealing with xemos the phone number is 970-300-2020 I tried calling but just got a recording

good luck

First, let me say that I had been treated with Epila (underarms) by a Derma. My 1st session so far since last month. I was actually shocked to see that she uses an appliance meant for personal use though she’s a professional. But anyway, that’s the reason why her fee for that service is quite cheaper than the others.

Well, obviously I noticed no change at all. I first thought maybe because it’s only my first session. But then I researched for the product to know how much it costs & saw that it’s so cheap. I was planning to buy but I still researched more & saw this.

I also found out that there is a fake Epila (white color) saying that it is made in US. The claiming to be legit distributor said that the original Epila is silver in color & is made in Korea. I checked the “US” distibutor & from their contact details, I can say definitely it is a scam. I’m not sure about the other one.

So I’m wondering where did you buy your Epila? Could it be that you bought a fake one or could it be that real Epila is really not that effective?

I hope to be enlightened before I go back to my Derma this month… Thanks!
