Whatever you decide to do with your body is entirely your choice. Whether we're talking about body piercings, birth control, or what you do with your body hair—we will always say #yourbodyyourchoice. With that said, we also recognize that beauty trends are fun to play with, and one of the cheekier things to play around with is your pubic hair.

As the area is so intimate, what you do with your down-there hair is also deeply personal. While you may decide to venture out and try a novelty shape for a night of fun or prefer to rock a full bush with confidence, there's no right or wrong choice.

What's great is that with so many hair removal methods, what you decide to do with your pubic hair doesn't have to be permanent. Whether you're shaving, waxing, tweezing, or trimming—your hair will always come back. There's a certain freedom with that, and we love it.

To best understand what pubic hair styles are trendy—and which ones are timeless—we tapped three hair removal experts. As the people who see countless pubic styles, they know what's in vogue and divulged all their insights, below.

Meet the Expert

Below, read all about some of the most popular styles and the best products to help you achieve your pubic hair goals.

1. The Brazilian

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you've likely heard of the Brazilian wax. While the style is somewhat customizable, it involves removing all the pubic hair in the genital region. However, some people also opt to remove the pubic hair in between their butt cheeks, for a fully bare look. Katie Slanina, an esthetician and the owner of Skintuition in Southern California, says she typically gets anywhere between 20 to 40 clients a day asking for a Brazilian wax, proving the style's popularity.

2. The Bikini

Arguably the most common one—and perfect for hair removal newbies—the bikini is simple and quick. As its name suggests, it removes the pubic hair that would otherwise be visible if you were to wear a bikini. (Think: the area where the thigh meets the pelvis and the inner thighs.) As this type of waxing style doesn't remove that much hair in comparison to others, the process is relatively fast and painless.

3. The Landing Strip

A thin strip of pubic hair running down the center of your mons pubis is an option many women opt for. The style allows them to sport some pubic hair while keeping the area groomed. As it does require some upkeep to keep the landing strip looking clean, some industry insiders say that laser hair removal—a method that uses concentrated laser lights to destroy the hair follicle and prevent it from growing back over time—is on the rise. It's generally a more convenient method for women who don't have the time or the tolerance for waxing. "We are seeing more and more women give up Brazilian waxes because it's causing them irritation and ingrown hairs," explains Christian Karavolas, a laser specialist and owner of Romeo & Juliette Laser Hair Removal Spa in New York City. "Also, waxing is not permanent, and it can be a time-consuming process."

4. The Inverted Triangle

Much like the popular landing strip style, the triangle removes all pubic hair around the genitals—except for a slight amount of hair on the mons pubis, shaped into an inverted triangle. You can experiments with making the triangle smaller or larger, depending on whether you're going for a full or barer look.

5. Natural Growth

Meanwhile, Pamela Jeschonek, an esthetician and the owner of Everyday Esthetics in Pittsburgh maintains that she's seeing a growing number of women go the natural route. In contrast to the bikini-clad Angelenos and big-city New Yorkers, her Pennsylvania clients are "over" the bare look. "Some ladies seem to age out of the style because they have kids and jobs, and it becomes less of a priority," she says. "But younger women are preferring a fuller look to keep in line with their more natural, active, organic lifestyles." She adds, "Most women do like to keep the hair trimmed and out of sight when wearing a bathing suit. But for now, it looks like "bigger is better" may be making a comeback."

6. The Novelty Shape

Who could forget when Samantha Jones from "Sex and The City" famously groomed her pubic hair into a lightning bolt? It's a fun, bold way to show your personality. From hearts and stars to martini glasses and arrows, there are plenty of options. However, an intricate pubic hair shape can be a bit tricky, with many precise lines and sharp corners. Thankfully, there are at-home stencils you can use to achieve a plethora of fun designs—we like Wusteg's Pubic Hair Shaving Stencils ($8). Take your time and follow best shaving practices, or head to a licensed esthetician for help achieving your dream look.

7. The Dye Job

Yes, like the hair on your head, pubic hair can be dyed. But before you get wrapped up in choosing a color, it is important to proceed with caution. As the genital area can be sensitive to chemicals in dye, it's best to seek a licensed and experienced professional who can safely color your pubic hair. If you're DIY the look at home, limit your coloring to the hair on your mons pubis rather than hair that extends further down and around your genitals and use a product formulated for pub hair specifically, with a no-drip formula like Betty Beauty's Color For The Hair Down There Hair Coloring Kit ($16).

Final Takeaway

Ultimately, do what feels best. At the end of the day, there’s no particular right or wrong way to handle pubic hair. It’s a personal decision, and every woman should do whatever feels best for her. And you have the freedom to try lots of different styles; what feels right at one time in your life may not feel as natural during another.
