Should I Shave My Eyebrows and Draw Them On?

Question: Should I Shave My Eyebrows and Draw Them On?
Answer: Before you think of wearing shaved eyebrows, beware. Can you say Joan Crawford in Mommy Dearest? The answer is a big no.

Using a razor in the eye area is never a good idea whether for shaping or to remove them totally to draw your own brow creation on. Check out this article about eyebrow shaving for reasons why.

The Importance of Eyebrows

We are our worst critics. You are more beautiful than you can imagine and remember that your eyes are the windows to your soul. With that in mind, think of your eyebrows as the shutters to the windows. You will always see them. They are probably the second thing people notice, next to your eyes.

Your eyebrows do a lot of communicating for you, so it's important to work with what you have. Do not draw attention to the ugliness that is shaving!

Work With What You Have

Your natural shape is best but if you are not happy with it, you can use a brow pencil one shade lighter than your hair color to help achieve a different desired shape.

Make sure the pencil is sharp each time you use it. You will get better results that will look more natural. Remember to use a light touch and try to use short, small hair strokes.

Do not draw them in like you are coloring in between the lines. Although that is great for a coloring book, it's not so great on you face.

Another great alternative to the pencil is powder. Using one shade lighter than your hair color is key. You don't want two really dark lines above your eyes. Seal the powder with a brow wax. Complete kits are available such as Smashbox Brow Tech (compare prices).

Bring Back Your Brows

If you have been shaving your brows to shape them, stop! If you notice that they are growing back sparse try products like Talika Eyebrow Lipocils (compare prices) or Librow (compare prices) both made to stimulate eyebrow hair growth.

The key is to allow those brows to grow back and use what you have. If you must rid yourself of eyebrow hair, seek out a professional who can shape your brows by tweezing, waxing or threading. Stay away from shaving.
