Guide Review - Natural Shaving Cream by Rituals Skin Care
Many personal care products like shampoos, body scrubs and shaving creams use sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate to create the soapy sudsy action. But both of these artificial chemicals are known to dry and irritate skin. Shaving in itself depletes moisture because it exfoliates the skin and the razor can cause irritation, so we don’t need ingredients that are going to strip the skin more of its natural oils.
This natural shaving cream is free of both sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate, made mostly from coconut oil it naturally creates a light, soapy foam for shaving. Coconut oil has been used for centuries because of how well it moisturizes the skin and also has the added benefits of antiseptic and anti-fungal properties.
A bit different than what we’re used to from a run of the mill cream or gel, the product comes in a balm form. You’re suggested to sweep a damp shaving brush into the cream which helps create lather and also lifts the hair so you get a closer shave. You need to add the right amount of water to get more lather, but you still won’t get a huge amount of foam like you're probably used to. I can't speak for men's facial hair, it was enough suds action for my legs.
While it’s not the closest shave I’ve ever had, although I did use a shaving brush, my skin was extremely soft and moisturized even without applying any lotion. Rituals Skin Care also makes pre shaving oil that goes under the cream to help avoid irritation and a milk and honey aftershave lotion to further moisturize freshly shaved skin and heal nicks and cuts.
