Jenn Webdale is a body sugaring hair removal expert at ALETERIS center in Scottsdale Arizona and trained using Alexandria sugaring products. She fills us in on switching from wax to sugar, mastering the technique and why her clients love sugaring.

Did you start out your career using wax for hair removal on your clients?

Yes, the first method I used for hair removal was hard wax.

When did you begin sugaring?

I learned sugaring at the same time I learned waxing, but didn't pursue advanced sugaring techniques until February of 2006.

Was the technique hard to master?

It took me a few weeks to understand the temperament of the sugar and fully grasp the movements required to perform the treatment, and another six months to really master the technique.

I know you keep a very busy schedule body sugaring. What's the main reason people choose sugaring, say over waxing?

Sugaring is a safer alternative to waxing because it never adheres to live skin cells and there is no risk of burning. Most clients report that it is less painful and lasts longer than waxing.

As a technician, what are the advantages for you choosing to use sugar?

Sugaring is much faster and cleaner than waxing. Also, because there are no strips or sticks used for body sugaring, there is less waste created for our landfills. I feel safe using sugar on all my clients, even those with skin conditions like rosacea, eczema and varicose veins who should not undergo waxing. Sugar hair removal results in fewer ingrowns and less hair breakage since the hair is removed in the direction of growth.

Do you do bikini waxes and Brazilians using sugar?

The Brazilian bikini is my most requested service. I am extremely efficient and make every woman feel at ease during the treatment. At ALETRIS, we take the time to properly prep the area before sugaring and then soothe the skin after the treatment.

Do you have men male clients that get sugared?

Male clients comprise approximately 10% of my clientele, and the most popular areas are back, chest, brows, legs and arms.

Why did you choose Alexandria Sugaring products?

We think that Alexandria is the best sugar company in the business. Their sugar product is excellent and they provide extensive training to their clients.

What options do you suggest for people looking to do body sugaring at home?

I honestly don't suggest sugaring at home since it is a treatment that takes even a full-time aesthetician months to perfect. Inexperienced sugaring techniques can result in a painful experience and less-than-desirable results. For those looking to perform hair removal at home, careful waxing is a better option as it is much easier to perform. Just watch out for burns!
