WOMAN TO WOMAN: The Truth About Permanent Hair Removal

By Gina Ricciardi, LE CPE

April 2009, Middletown Monitor Newspaper Article

I consider myself a specialist in my field of permanent hair removal. I would estimate that 90% of women have unwanted hair at some time during their lifetime. A quick look into the car visor mirror on a sunny day is proof usually prompting a call to my practice. As eyesight diminishes, hair may not be seen but can be felt. For reasons beyond our control (hormonal changes, hereditary factors, medication, and illness) hair sprouts making us frantic in ridding ourselves of this unwanted hair growth. Often hair is bleached, tweezed, waxed, shaved, threaded, and lasered off with unsuccessful results encouraging vigorous hair growth. Sound all too familiar? Do you know you can resolve your unwanted hair issue-permanently? The truth is electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method approved by FDA.

I am an electrologist, a specialist in permanent hair removal. I am licensed in New Jersey and nationally board certified with 16 years of experience. Electrolysis is the procedure I perform to eliminate unwanted hair and prevent the hair follicle, and cells within, from making subsequent hair. It is NOT solely removal of hair, but a treatment of the follicle to prevent future hair growth. Your results are smooth hair free skin. Beware; this is not a do-it-yourself procedure. Home electrolysis devices available for purchase are not professional equipment and you can damage your skin. Permanent hair removal should be left up to a NJ Licensed Certified Professional Electrologist.

Here are some basic facts about professional electrolysis:

1. Discovered by a physician in 1865, it is tried, true, and safe.

2. Electrolysis is the only FDA approved permanent hair removal method. It is not hair reduction.

3. Effective for all skin pigmentation (dark, light, freckles), all colors of hair, and all areas of the face and body.

What you need to know when considering electrolysis treatments:

1. Seek a NJ Licensed and Certified Professional Electrologist (LE, CPE). These individuals obtain continuing education to keep their hair removal skills and knowledge current.

2. An initial consultation is often free, and will explain the causes of unwanted hair, the hair growth cycle, how to care for your skin following trea

Advice

  • Get a free consultation. Rates should be posted. Make sure the electrologist wears gloves, uses only disposable sterile probes/needles. Make sure the electrologist is licensed and board certified. Ask the electrologist for a reference.
